Rangers: Pete O’Rourke drops Harry Winks transfer claim

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Harry Winks would be a ‘great signing’ for Glasgow Rangers.

The Lowdown: Winks offered

It was reported by 90min back in June that Tottenham Hotspur offered the Ibrox outfit the chance to sign Winks, although a number of other clubs in England have the chance too.

The central midfielder has now been left to train individually and away from the first team at Spurs, as they look for potential buyers.

The Latest: ‘Great signing’

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, when asked if Winks would be a good signing for the Gers, and a potential long-term replacement for Steven Davis, O’Rourke claimed:

“He’d be a great signing. If they can get someone like Harry Winks, just a few years ago Harry Winks was in the England squad. And obviously, it has not worked out for him at Spurs under the last couple of managers, but he’s still a very talented player.”

The Verdict: Big coup

Signing a player of Winks’ stature, who has played for England and has featured 128 times in the Premier League, would certainly be a big coup for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team.

The 26-year-old needs to get a run of games together in order to try and recapture some of the potential that he showed in his earlier years, and he would get more game time at the Light Blues than in North London.

Nonetheless, with Davis 37 years of age now, the Teddy Bears will have to start finding a replacement for him soon, and they could get that in Winks.

It would be a risk, but it could be one that may well pay off in the long-term.
