Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs keen to sign Tyrick Mitchell; doesn’t bode well for Danny Rose

Premier League - Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho wants to fix his defensive problems sooner rather than later.

Spurs have conceded more goals than Premier League champions Liverpool, newcomers Sheffield United and Manchester United this season.

Mourinho has made it clear that he wants to sign a new left-back, as Ryan Sessegnon has never looked particularly convincing, and Ben Davies remains the club’s only viable option in that position.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham are keen to sign Tyrick Mitchell, which doesn’t bode well for Danny Rose.

Mitchell hasn’t played a game for Crystal Palace this season, which makes his form hard to judge. However, the academy ace was a regular feature in the Eagles’ under-18 and under-23 teams which won their respective Professional Development League South divisions.

The 20-year-old oozes pace and is capable of handling himself in one-on-one situations. Although he picked up an injury at the start of the season, he made his first appearance in the senior squad against Brighton in December.

Earlier this month, David Ornstein revealed that Rose has agreed to extend his loan with Newcastle United for the rest of the season. The England international only played five games under Mourinho before being shipped to St James’ Park on a short-term loan in January.

Steve Bruce wants to keep him on Tyneside, as he has impressed for the Magpies so far, making two tackles per game and completing two clearances on average, with a passing accuracy rate of 79.9% (WhoScored).

Mourinho has made it clear that Rose is not a part of his plans for the future (via The Northern Echo). It remains to be seen if he will return to north London once the season is over, as he will be below the likes of Davies, Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order.

Although he has previously insisted that he will run down his deal with the Lilywhites, it seems that the decision is entirely out of his hands. Newcastle believe that keeping him at St James’ Park is best for all parties involved.

Spurs’ interest in Mitchell suggests that Mourinho has already made up his mind and is planning ahead for next season. Whether or not Daniel Levy will be willing to splash the cash on an unproven youngster is another matter altogether.

Tottenham fans, should Levy sign Tyrick Mitchell? Let us know in the comments below!
