Writing for Football.London, reliable Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold has claimed that manager Jose Mourinho wants two more signings despite having already acquired five new players, with a new striker and centre-back next on the agenda after last week’s headline-grabbing business.
Indeed, both Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon put pen to paper on deals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – the former being a season-long loan – with the duo costing a combined £42.5m as per reports from the Evening Standard and BBC.
Will Spurs make two more signings before the October 5 deadline?
Yes, best summer transfer window in years
That was surprising business to say the least, especially given Spurs’ need to borrow £175m from the Bank of England earlier this year, but Tottenham supporters will likely be joyous nonetheless after heavily reinforcing both the left-wing and left-back positions with astute signings.
The return of club icon Bale has indeed set the club back a pretty penny, as well as the signings of Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty and Joe Hart (Transfermarkt), but Football.London has now revealed that chairman Daniel Levy still wants two more players in before the window closes on October 5.
Of course, given the nature of Spurs’ business so far, the club apparently want to ship deadwood before investing any further, especially since Kyle Walker-Peters is the only player to depart for profit as things stand.
The Athletic correspondent David Ornstein listed Spurs’ most likely surplus-to-requirements players last week, with Danny Rose, Juan Foyth, Paulo Gazzaniga, Serge Aurier and Ryan Sessegnon all being considered as options to sell.
If Tottenham manage to offload unwanted assets and balance the books, Gold claims that Levy will then pursue a striker and centre-half – potentially reason enough for supporters to become excited over the next fortnight.
