The Lowdown: Winks exit claim emerges…
As per a report from The Times, Spurs and managing director Fabio Paratici appear willing to let the Englishman go next summer as a claim emerges on one condition.
It is believed that Tottenham will not part ways with their academy graduate unless they receive a fee of around £40 million for his services from any interested sides.
The Latest: Hutton stunned by fee…
Speaking to FI, former Spurs full-back Hutton has been left in disbelief at the amount Paratici wants for Winks – simply stating ‘wow’ in response to the £40m development.
“£40million, wow, that’s a lot of money,” he explained.
“I think he’s very tidy as a player, moves the ball about well – even if a lot of it is side to side.
“I’d be interested to see who is willing to pay £40million.
“It’s no slight on him, I do think he is a good player.
“The way Tottenham play, they are crying out for someone a bit more creative to set the likes of Kane, Son, Bergwijn, etc. on their way.
“You just wonder if Winks is that player.”
The Verdict: Sell on?
Getting £40m for a player who has largely been bit-part over this last year is certainly a brilliant deal, and we believe Spurs should bite the hands off any side if an offer of that ilk comes in.
Should Spurs sell Winks for £40m?
100 per cent, bite their hands off
No, he still has more to offer...
His homegrown status and age at just 25-year-old are certainly factors which could drive up his market value, but this mooted fee could potentially be a bit too much to ask of any team coming in for Winks.
Averaging a 90% pass success rate across both the Premier League and European competition since making his senior debut for Tottenham in 2014/2015 (WhoScored), you could argue there is some quality there.
However, is it enough to justify paying £40m?
