According to a report from Football Insider, in the latest twist involving former Spurs star Christian Eriksen, intermediaries have offered Tottenham a chance to sign their former club hero and bring him back to north London.
Eriksen, who left for the San Siro back in January, putting pen to paper on a £16.9 million deal with Inter Milan, has since found himself on the fringes of manager Antonio Conte’s side.
Should Tottenham re-sign Christian Eriksen?
No, don't need him anymore
Eriksen offered to Spurs
He was desperate to exit London in a bid to win more silverware but the plan hasn’t exactly come to fruition for the playmaker since leaving Spurs – with Inter failing in their Europa League and Serie A bids last season while Eriksen barely featured.
Now, with the Italian giants reportedly desperate to trim their wage bill, they have now offered Tottenham a chance to re-sign Eriksen – and a recent claim by Fabrizio Romano could back up this story from Football Insider.
Romano explains that if the Nerazzurri let him go, potentially to Spurs, it will be a ‘permanent deal‘.
Football Insider, however, state the move can be either a loan or full transfer – but should Tottenham do another Gareth Bale-type deal and bring their ex-hero home?
Transfer Tavern take
It’s no secret that Spurs did struggle for creativity at times when Eriksen left, but manager Jose Mourinho may now have found the solution.
Tanguy Ndombele has been placed in a role more further forward allowing him license to roam, arguably to devastating effect and mitigating the need to bring Eriksen back.
As well as the Frenchman, Giovani Lo Celso can also slot into the pocket behind Harry Kane – with Mourinho now potentially solving the issue regarding a lack of creativity.
Even though it would be a stellar, headline-grabbing return akin to Bale – Spurs’ need for Eriksen seems to be diminishing with every passing game.
