According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Tottenham Hotspur and chairman Daniel Levy are eyeing Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella – with the midfielder attracting ‘more and more attention‘ as the Serie A giants look set to try and tie him down with a new deal.
Barella on Tottenham radar
Barella has been a regular under Nerazzurri boss Antonio Conte this season, starting 20 league games whilst notching three goals and five assists in that time (WhoScored).
To ward off potential suitors, however, Inter seem set to offer him a bumper contract renewal according to this report – rewarding the attacker for his brilliant season at the San Siro.
Transfer Tavern take
Given his recent plaudits by figures in the Italian media, it is little wonder why Tottenham reportedly hold an interest.
Former Juventus midfielder Simone Padoin, speaking to TMW Radio recently (via fcinternews.it), described Barella as ‘truly irreplaceable’ for Inter and Conte – calling him the ‘best young Italian’ along with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Meanwhile, legendary former AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi lauded the £88,000-per-week ace in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via sempreinter.com) – branding Barella a ‘warrior’ who is ‘full of determination’.
Time will tell whether Levy lodges a summer attempt, but Inter’s goal to renew the player’s deal could make things tricky.
