According to a report by transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race for ex-star midfielder Christian Eriksen after he was put on the transfer list by Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta – a move that was tipped by Fabrizio Romano to drive Spurs fans ‘crazy‘.
Tottenham have been tentatively linked with a move for Eriksen following his nightmare stint at the San Siro, with Football Insider recently claiming that he was offered to Levy and co. on the last transfer deadline day.
Daniel Levy and Spurs join race
Charlie Eccleshare backed up this claim, going on to write that Spurs did have a chance to seal the playmaker’s shock return to north London (The Athletic).
In a move that would surely divide supporters, Romano also explained how Tottenham enquired over bringing him back at one point last summer – saying it could drive Lilywhites ‘crazy‘ with excitement.
Now, in a fresh development, Turkish reporter Konur has revealed on Twitter that Spurs are back in the race for Eriksen alongside the likes of Ajax and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The journalist explains that all three clubs are actively ‘competing’ for his signature, coming as Tottenham reportedly target attacking midfield players in this window.
Marcel Sabitzer has been most recently touted as a ‘dream‘ target, but a potential return for Eriksen has now emerged in this potential January twist.
Ex-Spurs star Paul Robinson, however, has a different opinion to transfer guru Romano – with the Sky pundit and ex-Spur recently blasting the would-be ‘ridiculous‘ transfer swoop.
Time will tell whether this move comes to fruition, but if completed, it is one that would certainly grab all the headlines in similar fashion to the re-signing of Gareth Bale during the previous window.
