According to a report by Sky Germany, both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are in the race to sign Schalke defender Ozan Kabak this month – with Jose Mourinho now re-joining the chase for his signature after he was reportedly ‘on his way to Tottenham’ in the summer.
Kabak, who has been likened to Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, is currently attracting the interest of both title contenders – with a war for his signing potentially set to go on all month.
Tottenham re-join race
As per this update, a possible deal could ‘drag on for weeks‘, but Spurs have been touted as candidates to sign him as they attempt to succeed where Daniel Levy failed in the summer.
Talks were ongoing during the final weeks of the last transfer window for a star centre-back, but Levy and chief scout Steve Hitchen failed to address that one area despite a fruitful summer in general.
This comes after Turkish journalist Mehmet Demirkol, via Sport Witness, dropped a bombshell in the summer over Kabak – with the reporter claiming a move to Spurs looked inevitable.
“Besiktas youngsters could make some mistakes. That’s normal. They will grow up and become better players. Just look at Ozan Kabak,” explained Demirkol when asked about the defender.
“He was consistently giving away penalties when he was at Galatasaray. But now, he has developed into a great centre back. And I heard that he’s on his way to Tottenham this season.”
Whether or not Spurs to manage to secure Kabak this time remains to be seen, but they’re apparently in the hunt.
