Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Frank McAvennie has tipped midfielder Dele Alli to secure a January move to Everton after a recent development that the Toffees are eyeing a move – with Jose Mourinho now facing the prospect of losing a talented player.
Alli, who made his first start for Tottenham in weeks on Thursday night as Spurs ran riot in the Europa League, putting Ludogorets to the sword during a comfortable 4-0 win, certainly impressed critics with his flying performance.
Alli tipped for move away
Indeed, the Englishman was handed a rare start by manager Mourinho, something that Alli may be grateful for as the postponed European Championships linger next year.
Gareth Southgate will be keeping a watchful eye on his situation at Spurs, and despite Mourinho gifting him an opportunity midweek, McAvennie believes the attacker, who has been a ‘mainstay’ ever since his move to north London, will have to leave for more game time – tipping a move to Everton after Football Insider revealed their interest.
“Dele Alli is going to leave as he is not going to get a game at Spurs this season,” explained the West Ham legend.
“Jose has told him, ‘You work your socks off or you are not going to get in this team.’
“Listen, he has to move and Everton would be a great team for him. I can see it. But Ancelotti will not let him get away with anything there either.”
Transfer Tavern take
Despite the Europa League cameo, McAvennie’s point may still stand that if Alli is to get picked for England, he must seek a move where he is guaranteed regular minutes.
Time will tell whether the Toffees mount an official bid, but Mourinho could be facing the exit of an ‘incredible’ player.
