According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are eyeing a swoop for Inter Milan sensation Nicolo Barella following the £89,000-per-week (via salarysport.com) gem’s brilliant array of performances under Antonio Conte this season.
Barely has seemingly turned many heads in Serie A, but this Calciomercato report doesn’t offer much more information on Spurs’ interest other than they are eyeing his signature.
Alongside debatable Premier League title rivals Liverpool, Barella is also attracting Tottenham’s eye, potentially down to his form over 2020/2021 for the Nerazzurri.
Spurs eye sensation Barella
According to WhoScored, the midfield maestro has started 15 league games, assisting his teammates five times whilst getting on the scoresheet himself twice.
While these numbers may appear standard for some onlookers, Italian media have lavished the 23-year-old rising star with praise in recent weeks, with La Gazzetta hailing him as ‘spectacular‘ after his very recent masterclass against Juventus (via Football Italia).
Previously, former Juve midfielder Simone Padoin, speaking in an interview with TMW Radio (via fcinternews.it), also waxed lyrical over Barella – describing him as the ‘best young Italian‘ alongside Gianluigi Donnarumma whilst explaining how the attacker is ‘truly irreplaceable‘ for Conte.
Transfer Tavern take
Given these sparkling credentials, coming from both the press and former footballers alike, it’s clear why Tottenham hold an interest – but with an estimated value of around £49.5 million (Transfermarkt), chairman Daniel Levy may have to invest heavily if he wants to secure this potential alternative to fellow targets Christian Eriksen and Marcel Sabitzer.
