Speaking to Football Insider, Kevin Campbell has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to lose attacking star Erik Lamela as his contract slowly runs down – with the pundit claiming his lack of an extension offer, either now or a few months down the line, could indicate the ‘writing is on the wall’ and he ‘will leave the club’.
Lamela has suffered through his fair share of injury problems since signing for Spurs from AS Roma, and even though his playing style natural tenacity is apparently ‘perfect‘ for Jose Mourinho, there is still no signal of a contract extension from the club.
His current deal expires in the summer of 2022, with Tottenham having three more transfer windows, including this one, to stick or twist with the Argentine as they contemplate either selling Lamela or offering him a new contract.
Spurs tipped to lose Lamela
Campbell, speaking to Football Insider, has tipped a twist – going on to claim that the writing could be on the wall given the lack of an extension agreement.
“He only has 18 months left on his deal now and if their is nothing agreed in the next few months then the writing is on the wall for Lamela,” he explained.
“The club could get money for him in the summer so I think we will see him leave the club then. If anything is going to happen, they would be doing business now.
“He doesn’t get on the pitch much anymore so you’d have to ask the question – why would he sign?”
Transfer Tavern take
Described as a player who ‘Mourinho loves‘ by correspondent Alasdair Gold, only time will tell whether the Spurs boss does lose him, but it could all be a key Daniel Levy decision as the chairman looks to reshape the squad to one that can challenge for titles under Mourinho.
