Rob Guest has urged Tottenham Hotspur to go out and sign Ivan Toney as he analysed their 2-0 win over Brentford for football.london.
Writing in his latest article for the news outlet, the journalist claimed that Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy ‘could do a lot worse’ than make a move for the EFL Championship star, adding that he would be ‘ideal’ for the Portuguese manager given that he is ‘exactly the type of striker’ that he looks for as he is ‘extremely strong’ and ‘more of a target man’.
Should Spurs sign Toney?
Toney could be an ideal back-up to Kane
As Guest argues, Toney could well be an ideal back-up forward to Harry Kane if the North London club do not take up the option of signing Carlos Vinicius on a permanent deal following his loan spell from SL Benfica.
A man on red hot form, the 24 year-old has scored no fewer than 16 goals and made a further four assists in 27 games in all competitions so far in the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt), and is perhaps ready to make the step up to the Premier League.
A deal would likely have to be done in the summer transfer window given that Vinicius is on loan for the rest of the season and the Bees will need Toney to fire them up to the top flight, but the Lilywhites should look no further than the Englishman if they are to finally land a successful back-up to Kane.
