According to a report from Sport Bild, via TEAMtalk, Jose Mourinho is eyeing a return for Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst as Spurs eye a January signing – with Milan Skriniar previously touted as the top target while this report says otherwise.
Weghorst, who was heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the summer window, opening up to Kicker over his ‘dream‘ Premier League move, could still leave the Bundesliga in January as Mourinho allegedly wishes to bag the 6 foot 6 beast.
Weghorst tipped for move
Despite signing Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan in the summer, the Portuguese has been barely utilised by Mourinho in the English top flight this season – featuring regularly in the Europa League but not so much domestically.
Vinicius also didn’t make the last two match day squads, missing out on the bench against Liverpool to Dele Alli – with Sport Bild now tipping Spurs to move for the German forward as an alternative.
Described as ‘crazy‘, Weghorst admitted to strong interest from Spurs – claiming talks were ‘serious’ and a move certainly could have happened.
Transfer Tavern take
Daniel Levy, however, will have to pay big money to land his services – with the German news outlet claiming Weghorst can leave in January for a fee of around £32 million to £36 million.
As Tottenham are tipped to bag the towering forward, despite supposedly showing a keen interest in Serie A colossus Skriniar, this news could surprise supporters given their acquisition of Vinicius in the summer.
Whether or not Spurs do bag him remains to be seen, but it would certainly be an interesting development.
