Tottenham Hotspur ‘watching’ Spain international with £65 million release clause

Tottenham Hotspur are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market as preparations continue for what could be a defining summer under Roberto De Zerbi.

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Spurs have already moved to strengthen their defence, bringing in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, while a renewed push for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke is also expected in the coming days.

With the back line receiving plenty of attention, focus is now beginning to shift towards adding more quality in the final third.

Spurs ‘Watching’ Ander Barrenetxea

According to The Sun, Tottenham are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old Spain international has impressed in La Liga, contributing four goals and five assists in 30 league appearances this season. Barrenetxea also played a key role in Sociedad’s recent success, including scoring in their Copa del Rey triumph over Atletico Madrid.

The winger had been hoping to force his way into Spain’s World Cup plans after making his senior international debut earlier this year, but an injury towards the end of the campaign ended those ambitions.

Sociedad are determined to keep hold of one of their prized assets and are understood to value him at his £65 million release clause. That figure could prove a stumbling block for potential suitors, although Spurs continue to monitor the situation closely.

Primarily operating from the left flank but capable of playing across the forward line, Barrenetxea would add pace, creativity and versatility to De Zerbi’s attacking options as Tottenham look to avoid another difficult campaign and climb back towards the top half of the Premier League table.
