Brighton & Hove Albion face a crucial summer as they look to rebuild a defence that could undergo significant change before the new season gets underway.
The Seagulls have already seen experienced figures Joel Veltman and Adam Webster depart, while veteran James Milner has also moved on after providing valuable cover in several positions during his spell at the Amex Stadium.
Adding to the uncertainty, Tottenham Hotspur remain determined to sign Jan Paul van Hecke. Spurs have already had two bids rejected for the Dutch defender, but there is an increasing sense that further offers could eventually test Brighton’s resolve.
With that possibility in mind, Fabian Hurzeler’s side appear to be wasting little time identifying potential replacements.
Brighton Submit Luka Vuskovic Offer
According to Sky Sports, Brighton have lodged a £30 million bid for highly-rated Tottenham centre-back Luka Vuskovic.
The 19-year-old Croatian, described as “exceptional” by Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin, enjoyed a remarkable loan spell in Germany last season and has quickly emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders.
Vuskovic helped Hamburg impress in the Bundesliga and even contributed six league goals, more than any other central defender in the division. His performances earned widespread praise and a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
The youngster is understood to be open to a move to Brighton, although Tottenham are unlikely to accept the current proposal. Reports suggest Spurs value the defender at well over £60 million, meaning negotiations are expected to continue.
Tottenham originally secured Vuskovic’s signature from Hajduk Split in 2023 before integrating him into their long-term plans, making any deal difficult to complete.
However, Brighton’s interest is significant. Should Van Hecke eventually leave for north London, Vuskovic appears to be one of the leading candidates to fill the void and become a key part of the Seagulls’ next generation at the back.
