Desperate to bolster his forward options ahead of the 2015/16 Premier League season, Alan Pardew brought Patrick Bamford to Crystal Palace from Chelsea.
And despite the striker lacking experience in English football’s top flight, his arrival was still one Pardew and supporters expected to bring reward.

“It’s a coup for Crystal Palace ahead of a host of rivals,” Pardew told Crystal Palace’s official club website following Bamford’s acquisition. “I’m so pleased he chose us over others to help develop his game. Hopefully he will be a star for us, Chelsea and – of course – England.”
Even though he failed to make a single Premier League appearance at Chelsea prior to joining the Eagles, it was not hard to understand why there was so much excitement coming out of south London.
Bamford enjoyed a very successful loan spell in the Championship with Middlesbrough the season prior, while his finishing ability has always been top-notch.
Unfortunately for the Selhurst Park faithful, though, they did not get to see that with Bamford’s loan spell with them ending very prematurely.
Having failed to make a single league start under Pardew, the 25-year-old decided it would be best if he cut short his loan spell with the Eagles and return back to Chelsea ahead of the 2016 January transfer window.
In the end, for both Bamford and Crystal Palace, it was a loan move that turned out to be a complete disappointment.
