It’s only early season, but the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are slightly concerned about new signing Victor Lindelof.

The Sweden international very much struggled in United’s pre-season games and was hauled off at half-time against Manchester City and Barcelona, an indication of how Mourinho viewed his displays.

The 23-year-old who arrived from Benfica for a reported £31 million fee excelled in Portugal last season, helping the Portuguese giants to lift the Primeira Liga for the fourth straight season.

Of course, it’s important the Swede is given time to adjust to the Premier League, but he must settle quickly.

As mentioned, it is only pre-season and Lindelof still has plenty of time to prove to be a success at Old Trafford.

£7.4m is a lot of money – and that’s how much it cost for Manchester United to sign Bebe from Guimaraes in the summer of 2010.

The Portuguese made just seven, truly awful, appearances for the first-team before a series of loan moves. He now plays for Spanish outfit Eibar.

ASHLEY YOUNG

May seem harsh, but Ashley Young arrived at Old Trafford as one of the best wingers in the Premier League. His emergence at Watford and underlying success at Aston Villa made a fine career in Manchester seem likely.

However after a bright start, perhaps the expectation of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world has been too much for him – the Englishman has been truly swallowed up.

ZORAN TOSIC

A winger that played even fewer games than Bebe. Billed as a prodigiously talented winger, the £9m signing from Partizan Belgrade in Jan 2009 made just five substitute appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Tosic was quickly ushered out the club, being sold to CSKA Moscow the following year.

WILFRIED ZAHA

Wilfried Zaha has shown the sort of form with Crystal Palace that Manchester United fans had expected to see.

Sir Alex’s last signing was bought in 2013, but after suggestions over a falling out with David Moyes, Zaha was ultimately shipped back to the Eagles. He made just four appearances for the Red Devils.
