TT Battle: Odsonne Edouard vs Lys Mousset

Transfer Battles Generic

Celtic fans and their French goalscorers. First, there was Moussa Dembele who brought goals by the dozen at the club, overlapping his time at the club and still there today is Odsonne Edouard. However, if they want to find someone to bag at the rates that Dembele used to then Lys Mousset would be a quality option for Neil Lennon to bring in.

The Bournemouth striker may cost the Hoops up to £10 million, according to this report from The Daily Mail. With that in mind, it isn’t a transfer that the Bhoys can just go into with little thought, and whilst the fans will have little say in what goes on in the transfer department, we’ll be giving our opinion on both Mousset and Edouard and comparing them against each other below.

LYS MOUSSET

Lys Mousset is a quality young player, and whilst he may not have kicked on at the rate that the Cherries thought he would when they secured his signing on a four-year deal back in summer 2016, they could make a tidy profit on him here. The step up from Ligue 2 in France to the Premier League is a massive one and his lack of impact in the English top flight shouldn’t put Celtic off.

Mousset has struggled as the likes of David Brooks, Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Josh King have been the men getting the goals at Dean Court, but Mousset has the potential to be prolific. The £3.15 million-rated hitman, via Transfermarkt, bagged 14 goals and three assists in his one season as a senior pro at Le Havre, and he can no doubt match and even better those numbers should he make a Parkhead switch.

TT GRADE: A

ODSONNE EDOUARD

Edouard may be one of the best strikers in Scotland but in truth, we’re not sure that’s saying too much. The Frenchman has the ability to put the ball in the net when you’d least expect it and he’s scored an impressive 21 goals in 51 games in all competitions this season. However, at times the 21-year-old has looked off the pace and lethargic at Parkhead and bringing in a sharper option would be a smart move.

The Parkhead man is younger than Mousset, and together the pair would work very well. At the age of just 21-years-old, the ex-PSG striker has plenty of room to improve and cut out the lethargy from his role as the lone striker in the Hoops’ system. Should he be able to do that then he’ll give himself a huge boost in kicking rumours of new strikers coming to Parkhead, and in turn, win battles like this in the future, but until he does so the debate will rage on.

TT GRADE: B

 TT VERDICT

For now, the Bhoys will be looking for a new hitman this summer, and as the Bhoys look for either an Edouard replacement or partner, the best man for that job is the impressive Lys Mousset. As far as we’re concerned, the Bournemouth man is a better option to bring the goals to Glasgow than Edouard, and should he be signed up then we will see very soon if that’s the case
