When Odsonne Edouard joined Celtic on an initial loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017, according to Transfermarkt, his market valuation was only £1.35m.
That valuation has since gone up to £13.5m, while reports in January suggested that Leicester City could be willing to pay up to £30m to secure the French striker’s services in the future. Undoubtedly, Edouard is not worth £1.35m anymore and the increase in his valuation is completely warranted.
This season, he has already scored 21 SPFL goals, building on the 15 he scored last term. Given the strength of the Scottish Premiership, some will have their doubts, though it is important to remember that the 22-year-old has made an impact in Europe. He has assists against Lazio in the Europa League and has also managed to find the back of the net against Danish giants FC Copenhagen.
Edouard has been on fire at international level, too, netting a total of 11 goals in just six appearances for France’s U21 side. Indeed, the former PSG man looks the real deal, with manager Neil Lennon recently lauding his quality.
“What a player he is – his all-round game is so good,” the Celtic boss told BBC Sport at the start of February. “He’s only 22 and he’s just a joy to watch at the moment. I don’t like building players up but it’s very difficult not to when you have a player of that quality playing the way he is.”
