For those who don’t quite understand Scottish football in the Transfer Tavern, they can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact the Rangers fans propping up the bar aren’t at all happy about how things are going this season. 

From an outside perspective, the Gers at least challenging to finish second in the Scottish Premiership is a huge sign of improvement considering the fact they were promoted in the summer just gone. However, little about Rangers’ history (as long as or as short are you want it to be..) indicates a club of such ilk is happy to merely finish second.

One of the teams battling them for 2nd spot in the Scotish Premiership is bitter rivals Aberdeen, who’ve finished there pretty much every season since 2012 and, in their minds, the death of Rangers football club. In charge of the Dons is former Gers star, Derek McInnes, who has largely done a sterling job at Pittodrie.

With current Ibrox chief Mark Warburton proving so unpopular amongst our drinkers recently, here are TWO reasons why McInnes should replace him ASAP.

Understands Scottish football

For many of the punters propping up the bar, one of the major grievances with Warburton is the fact they believe he doesn’t properly grasp Scottish football. Too often, they’ve failed to perform in big games, losing to Hearts, the Dons, Celtic and of course, Hibernian.

With McInnes having played at Ibrox for five years earlier in his career, he’ll know the importance of such games first hand.

Transfer dealings

Despite relatively big investment over the course of the summer, Warburton has struggled to convince he can actually improve the ranks. A number of big signings – most notably Joey Barton – have failed to work out, costing a club oh so familiar with financial problems a lot of cash indeed.

In stark contrast, McInnes has built a competitive squad over at Pittodrie on a much lower budget, so it’s amazing to think what he could do backed by big money.
