Arsenal fans are relieved in the Football Transfer Tavern after discovering that Arsene Wenger is looking for an immediate fix to their defensive problems after Borussia Dortmund exposed them in the Champions League.
According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners boss is considering free agents Diego Lugano and Joseph Yobo – who both appeared at the World Cup – to plug the club’s defensive deficiencies.
Arsenal only had three senior defenders available on Tuesday night as they were swept aside by a ruthless Dortmund side, 2-0.
They are in desperate need for a central defender to provide cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Despite the transfer window closing on September 1st, Premier League clubs can still sign free agents.
Scouts have been sent to examine both Diego Lugano and Joseph Yobo, although any moves for the pair are far from completed as the club are still considering their options.
It’s key that Wenger signs a centre half with Premier League experience and both of these potential targets provide that; Yobo for Everton and Norwich City whilst Lugano has played with West Bromwich Albion.
There was at least one positive on Wednesday after scans revealed that Jack Wilshere’s ankle injury is nothing serious.
Also, Mathieu Debuchy who came off against Manchester City has confirmed that he has avoided a broken ankle.
The Frenchman revealed the news on his Facebook page saying, “No fracture but one broken ligament.
“I have to wait until Friday in order to know if I must have surgery.”
Arsenal fans. Do you think that either Diego Lugano or Joseph Yobo are the answer to your defensive problems? Let us know your thoughts below.

I think we can still manage one of them for now till January window opens
But I don’t no the problem of wenger when u suppose to hv buy player he we not… WHY
This is another proof that Wenger is completely unreliable to get Arsenal back to challenge for honours. His achievements are long forgotten and he has nothing to offer us. Hr has earned enough to live well for the rest of his life.
Totally mystifying to be playing with wing backs when the extra work load gives rise to injury & tiring players much more quickly. Especially when short on back ups. Plus there real wingers in Sanchez, Ox & Campbell (all class with speed).. would be better options to allow fullbacks to do their real job. Also have of the most lethal poachers (Podolski) around, yet not used. What’s wrong with Chambers as central def midfielder? As for Ozil, play the guy where he shines.. in the middle.. the played are capable… play system that best suits the playing group we have.
Yes free transfers make sense now, but the failure to sign world class players when u need them will never make sense. I am one of the few that support wenger, just wish he could return that favour!!!
Since does each team need to do what other teams do or worry about them? Back your own players you have & play them in their most natural positions, afterall, isn’t that what they were bought/brought into do. Too much over complicating the game plan. Simple football is best.
my fellow funs, wenger sd not be taking only about woderskids instate stars also.eg other club they hve 2-3 seniors striker what do we have?
Can we have a world cup manager.
IS WENGER REALY PLANNING GOOD OR BAD FOR THE CLUA, IS THE CLUB OWING HIM? LAST SEASON WHEN CLUB NEED STRIKER HE WENT & TOOK ASICK OLD MAN ON LOAN, NOW WHEN THE MKT WAS ON THIS WENGER REFUSED TO DO SOME REPLACEMENT. EVEN OLD,YOUNG, MAD & DEATH PEOPLE ALL KNOW AS THE CLUB NEED DM & STRIKER, HE WENT & TOOK AN AVERAGE WELBECK ONE ON ONE HE CAN’T SCORE. NOW IS GOING ON RETIRED OLD PLAYERS. THE MAN DOES’T HAVE ADVISERS? OKEY LET HIM RESIGN & RETIRES SO FAR HE TIRED WITH THE JOB.
