Giovanni van Bronckhorst has played for the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal, but before all of that, he was playing for Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
It was in 1998 when he made the move to Ibrox from Dutch outfit Feyenoord, with the Gers paying £6.75m for his services. In three years, he would end up making over 100 appearances for the club, helping them win the league title on two occasions in the process.

He was a marvelous player who went on to play in a World Cup final with the Netherlands – it was always going to be difficult to hold on to him. As such, in 2001, the Gunners paid £8.5m to take him to Highbury.

As he showed against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup semi-final, he knows how to hit the back of the net. He also displayed that ability for the Gers, netting a long-range effort against Monaco during his time at the club. A video of that strike has been doing the rounds on Twitter, and it has led to the club’s supporters reminiscing about the 45-year-old – one fan called him a “Rolls Royce of a player”.
