The Gunners have been linked with a move for Ajax defender Gregory Van Der Wiel.
Don’t worry Arsenal fans – the Dutch international is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders on the continent and he is certain to travel to South Africa as part of Bert Van Marwijk’s 23-man squad.
The 22-year-old has had an excellent season in the Eredivisie and formed an integral part of Ajax’s obdurate back four who conceded just 20 goals last term. Under the tutelage of Head Coach Martin Jol, his price tag has soared to £10m as Premiership scouts have begun to take notice of his exploits at the Amsterdam Arena.
Van Der Wiel has publically stated his desire to play in a higher profile league than in his native Holland (and frankly who can blame him) and is believed to favour a move to the Emirates in order to link up with his good friend and fellow countryman Robin Van Persie.
With right back Bacary Sagna looking increasingly likely to move to Inter Milan this summer, Van Der Wiel is being touted as a more than adequate replacement for the North Londoners. Wenger faces stiff competition, however, from Manchester City and Aston Villa who both have problems filling the right back berth of their own.

I didnt see his actions at ajax but what i’ve seen yesterday (holland vs ghana) was absolutly stunning! Great pace, good crosses, and he was involved in almost every action. So if he plays always like this it would be very stupid not to sign him. Is anybody of you an expert of the eredivisie who can tell us how he performs in daily business?
