Fresh on the heels of announcing the signing of Juan Manuel Mata, Chelsea are also reported to be interested in bringing in Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic. Jovetic currently plays for Serie A side Fiorentina and is a highly prized talent in Italy.
Unfortunatley for Jovetic, a cruciate ligament injury in his knee saw the 21-year old miss the whole of last season, temporarily stalling his development. However, the Montenegrin is fully fit again and raring to go and could offer Chelsea something different from the rest of Chelsea’s relatively excessive strikeforce. More often than not deployed as a second striker, sitting just behind an advanced forward, Jovetic could become an efficient strike partner to either Fernando Torres or Didier Drogba, neither of whom enjoy playing in a deeper position.
Although seen as somewhat of a gamble given that he hasn’t played competitive football for the best part of a year, Itasportpress are reporting that this could cause Fiorentina to waver on their £20M asking price, and accept an offer as low as £10M. Andre Villas-Boas is keen to continue injecting youth into a rather ageing Chelsea squad, and Jovetic would seem like a perfect, and versatile, new addition to the team, providing he can reach an agreement with Fiorentina for one of their star players.
