The hysteria following Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick seems to likely to run and run. Dont’t get me wrong, it was a spectacular goal and the occasion magnified it’s impact. To win a derby with an unconventional strike was always going to get people talking.

Another issue of course was Wayne clearly hoped that it signalled the end of a dry spell goal wise. His celebration was that of man hurling a monkey off his back in dramatic fashion.
