The Football Transfer Tavern has seen many fantastic goals scored by Man United over the past 100 years, so narrowing down to the three best was no easy feat.

However, with the help of our landlord we’ve come up with a comprehensive list of THREE of the best.

Some of the punters were disappointed that we didn’t choose any of Bobby Charlton’s rockets but some of his finest goals are either not available at all, or are too poor in quality to pass judgement on.

Be sure in the knowledge that some of his goals are fantastic, as were hundreds of others but these were the three our punters compiled….

Ryan Giggs vs Arsenal, 1999, FA Cup Semi-Final

What more can we say about this goal? It was an astonishing piece of magic.

Receiving the ball on the half way line, Giggs decided to take matters into his own hands.

He had numerous opportunities to pass the ball but chose none of them.

Instead, he wiggled and shimmied his way towards the Arsenal box beating 4 defenders on his way to goal.

Sending Keown to the floor and making Dixon dizzy, Giggs found himself at an acute angle facing one of the best goalkeepers England have produced in David Seaman.

Unfazed, the Welsh wizard blasted the ball as hard as he could into the roof of the net sending the United fans into raptures.

In the 90th minute of the match Peter Schmeichel saved a Dennis Bergkamp penalty shortly after Roy Keane had been sent off for the Red Devils.

However, this game is best remembered for Giggs, and not just because of his goal, but because of the hilariously hairy celebration afterwards!

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Porto, Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg, 2009

After a disappointing first-leg at Old Trafford which finished all square at 2-2, United knew they had to break records to reach the Champions League Semi Final.

No English club had ever won at the Estadio Do Dragao before and in order to qualify, United were aware of the monumental task.

Step forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar was already having a mesmeric season for the Red Devils, but his goal against Porto was possibly his most important and memorable goal for United.

Receiving the ball some 35-yards away from goal, he controlled the ball slightly away from his feet, ran up to meet it and blasted it towards the net.

It rifled into the goal, leaving practically everyone in the stadium stunned.

Even to this day when I watch the goal back I struggle to comprehend how he finds that much power.

It’s an absolute belter.

I think the keeper’s hand would have been knocked off if he had got near it!

Wayne Rooney vs Manchester City, Premier League, 2011

Rooney had not been having one of his most fruitful seasons at Manchester United.

After a protracted transfer saga in the summer, it took time for him to settle into any rhythm and he was certainly not top of any Manchester United fans Christmas card lists!

However, he fought his way back into many of their hearts with one of the most memorable goals Old Trafford has ever witnessed.

With the game delicately poised at 1-1 with 13 minutes to go, a deflected Nani cross found its way into Rooney’s path. He powerfully bicycle kicked it past the standing Joe Hart into the corner of the net.

Whilst this was by no means Rooney’s best or most prolific season for Manchester United, there’s no doubt that will be continue to be one of the most memorable goals ever seen at the Theatre of Dreams.

For those watching on TV, it was made even more enjoyable through the bitterness of the Sky Sports pundit Mike Summerbee who used to play for City.
