Watford FC Transfer Rumours

The Transfer Tavern has decided to provide Hornets fans with the ideal platform to find daily updates on Watford FC including breaking transfer news, rumours, opinions, breakdowns, and so much more.

Despite falling just short of the top half of the table last season, Watford found themselves in complete disarray by December, following the sackings of Javi Garcia and Quique Sanchez Flores, until Nigel Pearson took charge of the club and stemmed the tide.

The Yellow and Blacks find themselves tied with relegation rivals West Ham United and Bournemouth on 27 points, separated only by goal difference, and Pearson will want to be busy in the summer window to avoid dropping into the Championship.

Watford FC Transfer Records

Talented youngster Ismaila Sarr is the club’s most expensive signing ever after he arrived at Vicarage Road from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais last summer for £27m. Misfiring forward Andre Gray previously held the transfer record, having moved to Watford for £18m from Premier League rivals Burnley.

Despite the surname, Isaac Success has largely disappointed in spite of his then-record fee at the time, scoring just five goals in all appearances for the Hertfordshire side, and has spent multiple spells on loan in Spain. Argentine international Roberto Pereyra joined in the same window and is fourth on the all-time list.

The Hornets famously pulled off a remarkable deal for former Barcelona star Gerard Deulofeu, who has shown flashes of his overall brilliance during his time at the club. Fans will be begging he makes a swift recovery from a nasty ACL injury.

Famous Watford FC Transfers

Many English teams have had their fair share of celebrity owners throughout the year, but it is difficult to find someone more famous than Elton John. The global icon became the director of his boyhood club all the way back in 1976 and orchestrated the appointment of club legend Graham Taylor as manager.

Fan favourite Troy Deeney is largely synonymous with the ‘Orns. Indeed, it is hard to mention one without talking about the other. The club captain started his professional career at Walsall, before transferring to Watford in 2010, and leading the team to promotion at the end of the 2014/15 season.

Remarkably, the board actually brought Odion Ighalo to the Premier League for the first time, long before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United laid claim to the Nigerian striker.

The Vic will always fondly remember the performances of notable Golden Boys like John Barnes, Luther Blissett, David James and Ashley Young over the years.

Biggest Watford FC Rumours

Chairman Scott Duxburry tried to land defender Ben Gibson on-loan from Burnley but the initial offer was rejected. Birmingham City also denied an approach for Kristian Pedersen and club officials could step up their attempts to sign the defensive duo to plug the gap at the back.

Abdoulaye Doucoure was tipped to jump ship in January, but a move to London sides Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur failed to materialise, although interest could resume when the summer window opens.

It has become rather apparent that Pearson’s squad are seriously lacking the firepower to mount a surge up the league. Finally finding a suitable replacement for Richarlison is surely a must.
