Our local Tottenham fans in the Tavern have been reacting to a bizarre rumour that’s surfaced in The Guardian, claiming that Mauricio Pochettino could be poised to make a late move for Liverpool’s Emre Can. The German midfielder is out of contract at Anfield this summer and a move to Italian champions Juventus has been on the cards for months.

The 24-year-old featured for the first time since March on Saturday, when he came on for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they trailed Real Madrid 2-1, although seconds after he entered the pitch his countryman, Loris Karius, made his second fatal error on the night as the Reds fell to a 3-1 defeat. Unfortunately for Can, he didn’t receive the fairytale ending that he would have hoped for as his Liverpool career ended in defeat.
Emre Can’s future has been a consistent talking point for Liverpool fans, and his recent exclusion from Germany’s 2018 World Cup squad looks to have been the price of his injury problems and negative media attention. Whilst Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus are favourites to bring the dynamic midfielder in, a Premier League switch wouldn’t be unheard of, and now with Tottenham’s reported interest it provides Can with a decision to make, even if our resident Spurs fans don’t want to see Can in white anytime soon.
