Football Whispers claim that the Merseyside club are keen for the Dutchman to follow Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane north from St Mary’s Stadium to Anfield, with talks between the clubs and the player’s representatives having already taken place.

With Van Dijk having been so impressive before his winter injury lay-off, there’s little wonder Kopites are full of cheer at this news, especially as Jurgen Klopp’s porous defence has cost them points on a few occasions over his 18-and-a-bit months at the club.
