The winter window is fast approaching and speculation as always is rife around the Transfer Tavern with our Manchester United fans.

The Mesut Ozil to Man United rumour is growing stronger by the day at the moment with the Mirror reporting that Ozil himself is confident of a move to Old Trafford is in the bag already. Our Tavern regulars think this could be a good move for the German international, he would be reunited with the man who brought his best years out of him and he would be again playing in a team that is challenging for more than just the FA Cup on a yearly basis.

The landlord presumes if Ozil does make the same move as Robin Van Persie did in Fergie’s last season, it would knock a few of the Man United squad member’s noses out of joint. We look at which three players wouldn’t be too happy if the former Real Madrid no.10 joined the Red Devil ranks.

Marouane Fellaini

The Belgian is a bit part player at United mainly getting used as a different option to score a goal or to use his weight to throw about in the midfield if needed. An Ozil move would drop him a little further down the pecking order and with his contract running out he’ll be wanting to get first-team minutes to prove he’s worth an extension.

Henrik Mkhitaryan

Ozil is regarded by Jose Mourinho has one of the best number 10’s in the business, Mkhitaryan has worked hard over the past 12 months to prove to the Portuguese boss that he is worthy of that role in United midfield three. A move for Ozil would see the Armenian having to share the role and his minutes would be reduced, having suffered from a lack of confidence at the start of his United career this may resurface those fears.

Juan Mata

In a similar mould to Ozil, Juan Mata is a playmaking number 10, many believed with the appointment of his former manager, he would have been shown the Old Trafford exit door but, to his credit, he has proven to be one of his most trusted players to use in the midfield trio. An Ozil switch would reduce his number 10 role minutes and push him out further to the right to make the first team on a regular basis.
