It doesn’t take an awful lot to rile Liverpool fans, so Bild’s report today that long-term target Julian Brandt is in negotiations with Bayern Munich has turned the air around the Anfielders’ booth here in the Transfer Tavern redder than the Kop on a matchday.
Recent reports have suggested that the 20-year-old attacker is a target Jurgen Klopp is eager to get on board as he heads into his second summer transfer window as the Merseysiders’ boss, and, on paper, the Bayer Leverkusen star seemed an ideal option.
Pacey, young, tenacious… German, all of the boxes were ticked for ‘Kloppo’, but the hair in the soup seems to be Bayern’s interest, with talks between the club and the player reportedly underway.
It’s often the case in the Bundesliga that the best talent from all other teams is hoovered up by the Bavarian heavyweights and with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben coming towards the ends of their careers, he might actually be a player they need.
