West Brom: Baggies eye William Carvalho

According to The Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho.

Carvalho on radar

The Baggies have already brought in Robert Snodgrass (wba.co.uk) and Andy Lonergan during this January transfer window, but that is unlikely to be the end of their business this month.

Now, they are said to be looking at Carvalho.

Stunning move

There is no doubt this would be a stunning move for the Baggies. Carvalho has a fantastic track record – he has 63 caps for Portugal, helping them win Euro 2016, while he has been the subject of heavy interest from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham (Transfer20) in the past. Not only that, he was compared to France legend Patrick Vieira as a youngster while at Sporting Lisbon (The Daily Express).

Currently valued at £18m (Transfermarkt), Carvalho could well be a huge signing for the Midlands outfit as they look to stay in the Premier League this season.

A transfer fee could well be a problem though. The Baggies can reportedly only spend up to £2m on any one player this month (The Telegraph), and with Carvalho still under contract in Seville until 2023, Betis have no need to sell him. Still, given what it is on the line, West Brom may be willing to gamble as they approach the business end of the season.

In other news, West Brom are interested in this former Champions League finalist.
