West Bromwich Albion defender Dara O’Shea shone for the Republic of Ireland during their 0-0 drew with Bulgaria in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday.
O’Shea a shining light
Ireland ended their Nations League campaign in third place in their group in League B. From an attacking point of view, they continue to struggle – they have not scored in seven matches. However, defensively at least, they are looking solid, conceding only six during the same spell.
Against Bulgaria, O’Shea stood out. Making three tackles and three clearances, he also won a whopping 12 from his 14 duels. Not just that, he made three key passes as well, showing that he can contribute going forward as well as defensively.
Good news for Bilic
With the international break on, Slaven Bilic will have been keeping an eye on the performances of his players for their respective countries. This display from O’Shea will have delighted the Croatian manager. At the age of just 21, O’Shea is only starting out in the game – he has only made 28 appearances for the Baggies – but this kind of display showed plenty of maturity.
Have you been impressed with Dara O'Shea so far?
West Brom are in plenty of trouble at the wrong end of the table at the moment, and Bilic will need players he can rely on to get his side out of the mess they are in. Called “fantastic” by Dan Watts before the start of the season, O’Shea is starting to look like a select member of that group.
In other news, this Baggies man has been tipped for a January departure.
