West Brom should hijack move for Nottingham Forest target ahead of promotion push

Grabban

A report from the Sky Sports suggests that a deal that would take striker Lewis Grabban from the south coast to Forest is nearing completion.

A deal isn’t done until both club and player have signed on the dotted line though, and there’s still time for someone to hijack this bid. That someone ought to be Darren Moore’s West Brom.

This season, West Brom will find themselves playing second tier football for the first time since 2010. As such, the Baggies are expecting their squad exodus to continue throughout this summer following their relegation, with replacements being brought in ahead of a campaign at this level.

The Breakdown

These exits could well include Salomon Rondon and/or Jay Rodriguez, who has been linked with a return to Burnley. If either of these two were to depart the Hawthorns, it would leave Darren Moore’s squad short of a recognised goalscorer.

That is exactly what Lewis Grabban is at Championship level.

Grabban was prolific across two separate Championship loan spells last season. The first of which saw him bag 12 goals in 19 league appearances in a struggling Sunderland side. Latterly, in the second half of the campaign, his contribution of 8 goals during a stint at Villa Park helped Aston Villa on their way to a play-off final.

The Croydon born forward’s pedigree at Championship level is not in doubt, and the impact he could have in a West From side striving to return to the top flight could be invaluable.

Transfermarkt estimate Grabban’s worth to be £2.7 million, but if West From fail to beat Forest to making a deal with Bournemouth then it could cost them a promotion.
