West Brom: Baggies eye Christian Benteke - West Bromwich Albion Transfer Rumours

According to The Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion are one of a number of clubs interested in Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke.

Benteke on Baggies radar

Sam Allardyce is clearly looking for a striker to add to his squad at the Hawthorns – Cenk Tosun (Sky Sports) and Mbaye Diagne (The Daily Express) have both been mentioned as potential options.

How many clubs had Bilic managed before taking the West Brom job?

This latest report says that Benteke is also on their radar, with Palace willing to listen to offers for the 38-time Belgium international.

Familiar face

Benteke, at least, is a player that Allardyce is familiar with having managed him at Palace. His time at Selhurst Park has been far from positive – during the 16/17 season, he did net 15 times in the Premier League, but he has only scored nine in the top flight since then (Transfermarkt).

There has been an up-turn in form more recently though – he has three strikes in 13 outings this time around and was called “fantastic” by teammate Jordan Ayew last March (BT Sport).¬†Throughout his career, he has proven at times to be exactly that.

He has 133 goals to his name, and his fantastic form at Aston Villa Рhe netted 42 goals amongst the elite in three campaigns Рearned him a £32.5m move to Liverpool (BBC).

Whether he could retrieve that form is up for debate, but Allardyce will at least know what he is getting from the forward. If he can get back to his best, he could solve a huge problem for the Baggies – they have scored just 15 times in the Premier League this term, more than only two other sides (Sky Sports).

It remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old ends up staying in London or whether he moves on to pastures new.

In other news, West Brom fans react to this Robert Snodgrass update.
