According to The Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion were interested in signing Salomon Rondon last month as he became a free agent.
Baggies wanted Rondon
West Brom were busy during the January transfer window, and they boosted their attacking options by bringing in Mbaye Diagne on loan from Galatasary until the end of the season.
However, it seems the Baggies had “tentative interest” in taking Rondon back to the Hawthorns, but were “already in the late stages of talks” for Diagne. Tottenham were also said to be in pursuit as they looked for back-up to Harry Kane.
Pleased the fans
Rondon spent three seasons in the Midlands, and although he scored just 28 times in 128 matches (Transfermarkt), he remains a favourite amongst the supporters. Throughout his career, he has scored 145 goals, and he has proven to be a nuisance for many a defence.
Would you take Rondon back?
Diagne has started well to life at West Brom. He scored against Manchester United in a 1-1 draw, but could have helped the Baggies take home all three points had he taken his chances.
Bringing in Rondon, especially on a free transfer, could well have given Sam Allardyce’s side that extra boost they need if they are to stay in the Premier League beyond the end of this campaign.
