According to Spanish outlet La Razon, West Bromwich Albion had an approach for Real Betis’ William Carvalho turned down in January.
Carvalho offer turned down
The Baggies were busy during the January transfer window, bringing in Robert Snodgrass, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Okay Yokuslu and Mbaye Diagne.
They also made a loan offer for 63-time Portugal international Carvalho. However, the deal fell apart as the Midlands outfit refused to have a purchase option included in the agreement.
While Sam Allardyce was able to bring in some decent talent last month, Carvalho will feel like the one that got away. The £18m-valued 28-year-old (Transfermarkt) has a strong pedigree in football – he has previously been compared to Patrick Vieira (Leicestershire Live) and has played at the last three major tournaments for his country.
Would you liked to have signed William Carvalho?
Clearly, the Baggies were not able to commit to a permanent transfer given the financial climate, but Carvalho could have been a huge help for a side lacking top quality. There is a reason they are currently 19th in the Premier League table and 11 points from safety, after all (Sky Sports). Only time will tell whether they are able to stay amongst the elite without the help of the former Manchester United target (talkSPORT via oldtraffordfaithul.com).
