West Bromwich Albion: Fans left fuming with Sam Johnstone throughout Nottingham Forest encounter

A number of West Bromwich Albion fans were left fuming with what they witnessed from Sam Johnstone whilst in between the sticks for them on Saturday afternoon.

Although there would be an argument that the shot-stopper would not have been able to do too much about either of the goals he conceded in their 2-2 draw (BBC), that did not seem to stop a plethora of fans seething on Twitter with his ability.

Indeed, the 26-year-old found himself being berated by the club’s faithful on social media with plenty criticising his skills in commanding his area, whilst one fan decided to go as far as calling him a “shambles”.

The £6.3m-rated Johnstone, as per TransferMarkt, was handed a poor match rating by WhoScored’s algorithm with a measly 5.47, although that may have been down to the fact that he did not make a save in the game.

Football fans, in general, can be a fickle bunch at times as it is worth noting that the former Manchester United youth product has kept seven clean sheets in his 33 Championship appearances so far, conceding just over one-a-game with a total of 36 (per TransferMarkt).

However, each match is clearly different and these supporters would have felt within their rights to criticise the ‘keeper’s latest showing.
