West Ham midfielder Carlos Sanchez came in for scathing criticism from a number of the club’s fans following their team’s exit from the FA Cup this afternoon, with one deriding him as a “clown“.
The 33-year-old had started just three matches all season for the Hammers (two of which were in the Carabao Cup) before being brought into the team by David Moyes for today’s clash against West Brom at London Stadium, but it turned out to be an abortive afternoon for the Colombian.
He was one of three players hooked by Moyes at half-time as the manager demonstrated his displeasure with the first half display from his side, with Conor Townsend’s ninth-minute goal proving enough to take the Baggies through to the fifth round.
Sanchez made just 26 passes during his 45 minutes on the pitch and completed only 19 of those. Also, as noted by Alan Smith of Football London, his error in kicking the ball off Issa Diop led to the match-deciding moment, with the reporter describing his performance as “awful” and adding that “his distribution was all over the place”, giving him a meagre three in his player ratings.
These West Ham fans on Twitter were seething over Sanchez’s display this afternoon:

Get that useless muppet carlos sanchez off the pitch and out of our club. The geezer cant even make a simple pass to someone in our team. Gives the ball away everytime as does balbuena. Pathetic

It genuinely amazes me how Carlos Sanchez made it as a professional footballer. #WHUWBA

I have players for my under 7s with better positional sense than Carlos Sanchez. He is always too far up in midfield for a holding player and never tracks the runners… It's basics!! CM is by far the most important position for us to strengthen.

Trying to think of a worse midfield player we've had than Carlos Sanchez 😂😂 every fan with half a brain knew he was a terrible signing

Do you think Sanchez was the worst player on the pitch today for West Ham? Should Moyes sell him before the end of the transfer window? Comment below with your views!
