West Ham: Fans react as Gonzalo Higuain is linked to the club

West Ham United have been linked with striker Gonzalo Higuain, and a lot of the fan base are not best pleased with the latest reports as the club prepare for the 2020/21 season.

According to La Repubblica and tweeted out by West Ham Football, the Irons would like to sign the Argentinian this summer but are yet to make an offer. They might face some competition however as fellow Premier League side Aston Villa are also reportedly interested.

There is no doubting the world class quality that Higuain had in the past as he has managed to score 306 goals, whilst also picking up 101 assists in 632 appearances for various clubs including Napoli, Chelsea, Real Madrid and his current club Juventus, per Transfermarkt.

However his loan spell at Chelsea two seasons ago highlighted that he is not as good as he once used to be as he only managed five goals.

The 32 year-old clearly knows where the back of the net is, but whether he can still perform consistently is another question and with him reportedly on a wage of around £240,000-a-week, this would be a very risky signing for the club, and it is understandable to see some fans frustrated with the news.

I would wager this has been put out so that we all accept Xande Silva as 3rd choice striker next season. When given the choice of him or an ageing, overweight Higuain, I think most would choose Silva.
