It’s shaping up to be a transformative summer at West Ham United as Graham Potter begins a major overhaul following a forgettable 2024/25 season. With key departures and several fresh faces already through the door, the club is clearly aiming for a reset — and the midfield looks to be next on the list.
The sale of star man Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham Hotspur left a significant creative gap, while long-serving veterans like Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell have also moved on, signalling the end of an era at the London club.
In response, the Hammers have started to rebuild with intent.
Premier League regular Kyle Walker-Peters has arrived to add experience, and exciting Senegalese talent El Hadji Malick Diouf brings versatility and promise. Up front, Callum Wilson is expected to sign imminently, adding goals and grit.
Now, a familiar name from Arsenal’s past could be the next piece of the puzzle.
West Ham Eyeing Move for Fabio Vieira
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, West Ham are monitoring Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira, with the 25-year-old former Arsenal player reportedly added to their list of summer targets.
While no formal offer has been made to Porto at this stage, Jacobs notes that Graham Potter is targeting multiple midfield additions as part of his wider rebuild — and Vieira fits the profile of the creative player the club needs.
Vieira initially joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 for £34 million, arriving with a reputation as one of Portugal’s most technically gifted young midfielders.
But despite flashes of promise – with Mikel Arteta describing him as a “really creative player” who “has the capacity to decide games” – he struggled to break into Arsenal’s first-choice XI, making just 49 appearances — the majority as a substitute — over two seasons.
In 2024, he returned to Porto, where he has since rediscovered the sharpness and vision that made him so highly rated during his first spell in Liga Portugal.
Now, as soon as that second spell in his homeland as started, it seems he could be Premier League bound again for a second crack at the whip – this time on the other side of the Thames.
