According to Calcio Financial, there has been a transfer update out of West Ham United involving former Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu.
The Lowdown: Deulofeu once close to joining…
This isn’t the first time that the Hammers, and by extension owners GSB, have been linked with the Udinese star, with reports of West Ham’s interest dating all the way back to 2018.
Indeed, according to sources in Spain at the time, Deulofeu was actually ‘close to joining’ the east Londoners from his former club Barcelona in their attempts to sell the 27-year-old.
He did end up moving to the Premier League, but not to east London, as Watford eventually managed to secure his signing on loan from Camp Nou, eventually turning into a permanent deal.
It now appears that Irons manager David Moyes has reignited interest in the four-cap Spaniard.
The Latest: GSB willing to pay seven figures for Deulofeu…
According to Calcio Financial, GSB and West Ham are ‘willing to pay’ a seven-figure fee between £1.5m and £2.5m to sign the player from Udinese.
However, it is ‘unclear’ as things stand whether the Serie A outfit would green-light his exit in the summer.
The Verdict: Lean couple of years
Having scored a career total 70 goals from out wide, Deulofeu’s best-ever tally in an elite top-flight division for one season comes in at 10 goals and five assists. This was actually for Watford in the Premier League over the 2018/19 campaign, but the former Everton loanee’s form hasn’t exactly been eye-catching since then.
Indeed, Deulofeu has bagged just 13 goals and nine assists from the beginning of 2019/20 through to now (Transfermarkt), bringing into question whether he can truly upgrade Moyes’ options.
Before making a move, we believe that West Ham should certainly weigh up alternative options first.
