Speaking to Football Insider, West Ham United club legend Frank McAvennie has urged the club to sign Lyon star Moussa Dembele – coming days after journalist Sam Inkersole dropped a potentially worrying update on Michail Antonio.
Do West Ham need to sign Dembele?
100%, get it done
GSB would never sanction the move
The Dembele and Antonio conundrum
The Sun claimed that GSB are eyeing a swoop for the Frenchman as a potential star striking option, with Sebastien Haller currently out-of-form and Michail Antonio often suffering from fitness issues.
Antonio could be back for the club’s trip to Sheffield United after this international break, but football.london journalist Inkersole claimed that David Moyes will still have to be selective regardless.
Indeed, as per his update, Antonio’s history of hamstring problems means that he cannot just be thrust back into action – as the Hammers boss has done with Antonio before, which resulted in more time on the sidelines.
McAvennie urges West Ham to move
Life without the Englishman regularly starting is certainly a daunting prospect for supporters given his importance on the pitch, with McAvennie tipping the club to bring in a ‘fantastic’ signing who can provide much-needed fire power.
“He must have had a fallout at Lyon because ability-wise you would put him in the team. Something has happened there because he was doing very, very well,” he told Football Insider.
“If West Ham could get him I would take him. He is a fantastic striker who puts himself about and is always willing to take the ball. He knows where the goal is, that is for sure.”
Transfer Tavern take
Dembele is a proven finisher in front of goal, as displayed by his time for Celtic in the SPFL, and if West Ham could land him, it would indeed be an amazing coup for Moyes.
