Speaking to Football Insider, a West Ham United source has now dropped an exciting claim involving USA international and Serie A star Weston McKennie.

The Lowdown: Moyes building...

It took a while for West Ham to significantly bolster their squad in the last transfer window, but a plethora of late deals allowed manager David Moyes to continue building on a memorable 2020/2021 campaign.

Signing Alphonse Areola on loan from Paris-Saint Germain first, Irons supporters had to wait until the dying weeks of the window for more additions.

Indeed, Kurt Zouma, Nikola Vlasic and Alex Kral didn't arrive until the last fortnight with the only downside being West Ham's failure to bring in a striker.

Now, a Rush Green source has shared what GSB are planning behind the scenes.

The Latest: West Ham source drops exciting McKennie claim...

As per the West Ham source, speaking to FI, the Hammers hierachy, GSB, have already held talks over signing Juventus midfielder McKennie.

It is also said that West Ham are already laying the groundwork for a 'big money deal' as they set their sights on a possible Declan Rice alternative - especially given the Englishman rejected two contract offers over the summer.

The 23-year-old is now a leading target for the club according to this report, and it seems they are already working on a deal to sign him outside of the window.

The Verdict: Big news...

This news of GSB's intentions for Moyes and West Ham so soon after the most recent transfer window certainly comes as exciting, and a welcome relief for the majority of supporters who are still unhappy with the club's ambition in the market.

McKennie, who has been called an 'outstanding talent' by former Premier League boss David Wagner (Bundesliga), also comes with plenty of sell-on value at such a young age, so could benefit the Irons long-term.

The fact he has already amassed 25-caps internationally tells you all you need to know about his quality and experience at such a young age.
