Plenty of West Ham United fans have been left reeling after listening to what one of their owners had to say in an interview with talkSPORT recently.
David Gold sat down with reporter Ian Abrahams to discuss ongoings at the Hammers, but one comment in particular hasn’t gone down too well with their supporters.
He was discussing the club’s move from Upton Park to the London Stadium and insisted that he still feels that they did the right thing. He said: “The best thing that we’ve ever done since we’ve been here, is taking our football club to the Olympic Stadium,” (via @talkSPORT).
Quite a lot of West Ham fans have admitted that they do not like their new stadium. Despite the increased attendances, many have previously insisted that it is “soulless” and that they had moved to a place that isn’t “fit for football” as it was originally built for athletics (via The Guardian).
And after seeing that Gold had once again defended the move, many of them took to Twitter to argue that they were completely wrong to take them away from Upton Park. Indeed, many were so angry that they were calling for Gold and his partner David Sullivan to leave the club as soon as possible. Here is what some had to say…
@davidgold interview shows exactly why the owners do not understand the fans fury. Deluded, ignorant or arrogant.#GSBOUT

Disgrace. Even away supporters will say the same. Ripped heart and soul out of the club to benefit own back pockets. The protests are coming and won’t stop. Must force them out.

A stadium that’s not ours and not fit for any type of football and then there’s the fight to get to and away from the soulless bowl!! Like to see you in a stop and go queue David. You are so out of touch with the real West Ham 🤡

Mr Gold you killed the community by moving Stadium! Many local businesses and livelihoods have been lost…these people needed the club and your tore it from them 😡⚒

Seriously? It’s the worst football stadium in the country and hasn’t helped the club move forward at all yet apparently it’s the best thing they’ve done.

Sitting in the posh seats. Having the food and drink at the London stadium is probably way better than you got at Upton Park. Try sitting with real fans who are paying hard earned wages each week for a poorer experience. Your living in a different world. #GSBOUT
