News that will be of interest to West Ham United, Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion has reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern, courtesy of John Drayton of the Daily Mail.
Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku’s future is still up in the air, and the Hammers have asked their West London rivals if they can take the powerful forward on loan next season.
Lukaku has enjoyed a terrific season on loan with the Baggies, and West Brom manager Steve Clarke has made no secret of his desire to keep him at The Hawthorns for another season.
The 20-year-old has managed 14 goals this season, and is considered to be worth around £20 million.
West Ham are in the market for a new striker, with Carlton Cole’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, and Andy Carroll’s whereabouts next season still unknown.
Carroll has impressed during his loan spell with the Hammers, but with parent club Liverpool demanding £17 million for his services, and his former club Newcastle United also in the mix, it remains to be seen whether West Ham can conclude a deal.
Lukaku therefore represents a top alternative, with a possible year-long loan move being mentioned, with a possible full time deal in place afterwards.
However Chelsea are not prepared to make a decision on Lukaku’s future until a new manager is in place.
