Rangers drafted in a number of players during the summer transfer window as they set their sights on securing silverware during Steven Gerrard’s first season in charge.
The Bluenoses have started the season brightly with a number of their summer signings really starting to come on leaps and bounds, which has certainly helped their push for silverware.
However, one of the club’s signings from last summer is yet to make a name for himself at the club as he continues to disappoint supporters.
Joining Rangers on the 22nd of June 2017 from Liga MX side Guadalajara, Carlos Pena, struggled to adjust to life at Ibrox under Pedro Caixinha as he ended up following the sacked Caixinha to Mexico after making just 14 appearances in the famous blue shirt.
There, Pena struggled to stay focused and became embroiled in a number of alcohol-related incidents.
He then joined Necaxa but his stint has been ended up two months early, and now new manager Gerrard has a decision to make.
Indeed, the Bluenoses currently have a number of central midfielders at the club but a couple of them lack experience, which is something that Carlos Pena could provide.
Pena has the ability to succeed in the Scottish Premiership and showed signs of something special during his time at Ibrox, but he wasn’t necessarily guided in the best possible way during Pedro Caixinha’s reign.
Rangers lack a cutting edge at times and can be fairly one-dimensional, so Gerrard should unleash his secret weapon as the Mexican could prove to be the missing piece of Rangers’ title puzzle if he fulfils his potential in the side.
The Rangers boss has already breathed new life into the football club since taking over as he continues to improve and develop players, so there’s no reason as to why he can’t work his magic on Carlos Pena. If he does, who knows what that could do to the title race in Scotland.
