Why Jack Grealish Could Be the Ideal Replacement for Son at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur now face a new era following the departure of Son Heung-min, who has officially joined MLS side LAFC. The South Korean international leaves behind a legacy of over a decade in North London, with 173 goals in all competitions and a reputation as one of the most consistent wide forwards in the world.

Replacing a player of Son’s stature won’t be easy, but Spurs may already be looking towards a proven Premier League talent: Jack Grealish. Currently at Manchester City, Grealish could be the marquee addition that fills the gap left by Son and signals Spurs’ ambitions under new manager Thomas Frank.

Grealish Brings Star Power and Creative Spark

Jack Grealish is no stranger to the spotlight. A key part of Manchester City’s treble-winning side in 2022/23, the England international improved under Pep Guardiola. While his goal tally has remained modest, his technical ability and ball progression have been hallmarks of his games.

With Son now gone, Frank needs someone who can offer similar flair on the left, while also linking play and drawing defenders out of position. Grealish excels in these areas, often leading the Premier League in carries into the final third and fouls won. His style will also complement players around him, creating a fluid and unpredictable attack.

A Fresh Start Could Unlock Grealish

At City, Grealish has started to find his playing time being more and more limited, especially since the arrivals of Jeremy Doku and Omar Marmoush. A move to Spurs could give him the consistent game time he craves, especially as he’s now in his peak years.

Frank’s system, which will encourage direct and expressive football, is an ideal environment for a player like Grealish, who thrives on freedom in the final third. Rather than being part of a rigid structure, he would be encouraged to take risks, beat defenders, and influence games more decisively.

A Statement Signing for Spurs

Son’s departure is not just a footballing loss, it’s also a commercial and emotional one for Spurs fans. Signing Jack Grealish, one of English football’s most recognisable figures, would send a message that the club remains committed to challenging for top honours.

There seems to be a desire from City for Grealish to move on this summer, ideally permanently, or on loan, and if Spurs reinvest the money they receive from the sale of Son to LAFC, it could help them finance the deal.

The latest football transfer betting also suggests that Spurs are a likely option for Grealish this summer, as he looks to continue his career away from the Etihad.

Conclusion

Son Heung-min’s departure to LAFC marks the end of an iconic chapter at Tottenham Hotspur. But with change comes opportunity, and Jack Grealish represents a ready-made replacement capable of stepping into the spotlight.

His Premier League pedigree, technical brilliance, and growing desire for a leading role make him an ideal fit. Whether Spurs can get the deal over the line remains to be seen, but if they can, he could be their next superstar.
