According to a tweet from the Athletic journalist Tim Spiers, the Greek government has ruled that all sporting events should take place behind closed doors over the next two weeks – resulting in many Wolves fans responding sharply to the update.
Wolves, who brilliantly disposed of La Liga outfit Espanyol in the round of 32, are due to play against Greek giants Olympiakos in the first leg of their last 16 clash on Thursday – but this news, potentially put in place to help combat growing coronavirus fears, could mean that supporters are unable to attend the clash despite many of them having already bought tickets and travel.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are currently enjoying a terrific season in the top flight, sitting sixth in the Premier League and unbeaten in their last five domestic outings. With that in mind, travelling supporters were looking forward to attending the clash – but this news has now prompted a sharp response, with one fan calling it a ‘joke‘.
