Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that Nuno Espirito Santo could be suitable for one of the top six jobs, irking many of the Wolves fans considering the club are now fifth in the table.
Speaking to Sky Sports before Saturday’s round of Premier League fixtures, he said that he would have the manager at Arsenal ‘tomorrow morning’, before saying he would be suitable at one of the bigger clubs.
“I worried about these at the start of the season,” he said (via Birmingham Live), “Because last year, they beat the good teams and I thought, if they don’t start beating the bad ones, they aren’t going to keep beating the good ones.
“I like the manager, I think they are fortunate to have this manager. I don’t mean that disrespectfully but I think he could take one of the top six jobs. I’d take him at Arsenal tomorrow morning.”
With the West Midlands side jumping to fifth in the table after their 2-1 win away at Bournemouth in the Premier League, fans were quick to point out that Paul Merson had proverbial egg on his face as they were now in fact a ‘top six’ side. Arsenal, on the other hand, are no longer one, sinking to eighth in the table after their 2-2 draw with the Saints.
Raul Jimenez was able to add to his growing goal count for the season and Joao Moutinho scored a scorcher off a free-kick to celebrate his new contract in style.
Many fans enjoyed tweeting about Merson’s mistake, as you can see below…
